Xiaomi announced a strategic collaboration with Reliance Jio True 5G to integrate the telecom company’s NSA (non-standalone) 5G network capabilities into Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones. The partnership ensures that a wide range of compatible devices receive software support required to access Jio’s next-generation mobile network, allowing users to benefit from faster download speeds, lower latency, and improved network reliability after installing the latest system updates.
The rollout covers several popular smartphones across Xiaomi’s premium and mid-range portfolios. Supported devices include the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, Mi 11 Ultra 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Mi 11X 5G, Mi 11X Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11i 5G, Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, and Redmi K50i 5G. Owners of these smartphones can enable 5G connectivity by downloading the latest firmware update and selecting 5G as the preferred network mode in the device settings.
The collaboration represents an important step in expanding access to fifth-generation mobile services across growing smartphone user base. While most of Xiaomi’s compatible handsets were already equipped with the necessary hardware to support advanced mobile networks, dedicated software optimization was required to ensure compatibility with Jio’s infrastructure. Over-the-air updates allow existing devices to access the network without requiring additional hardware upgrades.
To activate the service, users need to verify that their smartphones are running the latest available system software. Once updated, the preferred network option can be changed through the SIM and Mobile Network settings menu. Availability of 5G connectivity also depends on whether users are located within an area where Jio’s network has been deployed. Devices meeting both requirements automatically become eligible to connect when coverage is available.
The introduction of software support reflects the industry’s broader effort to make existing 5G smartphones compatible with different network architectures. Telecommunications providers and smartphone manufacturers worked closely to optimize modem firmware, radio configurations, and network protocols so that users could transition smoothly as commercial 5G services expanded.
